"I started taekwon-do at the age of 49 and change. My son was interested and then my wife joined, so I said more the merrier. My expectations were that we would give it a try and see what happened. What happened was that we all stayed with the classes for quite a while, with the both success and disappointment  Personally taekwon-do supplied me with all of the things I had been looking for and never found. I say this in regards to several things.

"First great exorcise. I had never been able to stick to anything up to that point. Secondly a way to measure progress, This of course is not the most important thing , but for me motivation is much higher when I have a goal to shoot for. Stress relief, I have a busy job with a lot going on. To be able to put  all that out of mind to concentrate on taekwon-do is a benefit better than any other I have found. Emotional benefits are the sense of accomplishment one can get from simply doing better at the essentials of taekwon-do as you stick with it and practice. The other big emotional benefit is the sense of community that develops with your taekwon-do peers. To me a total different type of comraderie from work or family that I would never experienced had I not found this art form. Spiritualy taekwon-do provides me with a constant base to try and be a better person. In all aspects of life you can fall back to the tenants to form your action or reaction to daily occurances at home at work and simply driving down the street. It helps with all of life in general.

"My favorite part of taekwon-do is doing the forms. For a long time, I felt I wasn't very good at them. After getting to black belt, I learned to refine and tune them, finding subtleties that I didn't realize were within my ability. It has made every move in every form that I have learned take on new meaning."
